Biography

Dan is a Conservation Scientist, with a focus on the harvest, consumption, and trade of wildlife, particularly for wild meat (terrestrial and aquatic) and traditional medicine in the tropics. His research spans both the natural and social sciences, using a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods. Dan has managed several wildlife monitoring projects across the tropics (e.g., using camera traps and acoustic sensors), and is also currently involved in several projects investigating topics such as conservation intervention effectiveness, designing behaviour change campaigns, traditional uses of wildlife, and natural history. Dan is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Kent, where he leads a lab group on the hunting, consumption, and trade of wildlife, to inform sustainable management and policy decisions. Dan is also Field Science Focal Point for the IUCN SSC Pangolin Specialist Group.
